Krohne ultrasonic flowmeter is standard equipment at BASF

November 2006 Flow Measurement & Control

At BASF, one of the world's largest chemical groups, the UFM 3030 ultrasonic flowmeter from Krohne passed a type test and was added to the company's standard equipment. The UFM 3030, therefore, comes under the global framework agreement between BASF and Krohne, making the metrology specialist a global supplier of flow and level instrumentation. BASF uses both standard and special-purpose instruments. In its standard version, the UFM 3030 is suitable for media temperatures up to 180°C. The small nominal diameters, starting at DN 25, are particularly attractive to users like BASF.

The UFM 3030 universal in-line flowmeter delivers reliable and stable results as a result of its innovative electronics, digital signal processing and three measuring beams. The measuring beams are placed in such a way that the measurement is largely independent of the flow profile. This ensures performance over a wide measuring range, even with non-axisymmetrical flow profiles. Measurements begin at zero flow due to the high load reduction ratio.

The UFM 3030 provides all the advantages of ultrasonic flow measurement: independence of media properties, suitability for conductive and nonconductive media, and bidirectional measurement. The flow sensor has no built-in or moving parts that are subject to wear. As a result, there is no additional pressure loss, which eliminates the need for regular recalibration and minimises maintenance and repair.

All UFM 3030 flowmeters with nominal diameters from DN 25 to DN 3000 and flow rates of approximately 1 m²/h to 40 000 m³/h are wet-calibrated. Flowmeters with nominal diameters above DN 150 are calibrated on one of the world's largest and most accurate production calibration benches, with a degree of uncertainty less than 0,012% of the measured value. This ensures that each flowmeter shipped complies with the specifications.
