Automation success celebrated with Moet & Chandon
January 2001
News
To meet the increased demand at Epernay (France), Moet & Chandon has a new disgorging line with a capacity of 12 000 Champagne bottles per hour. It involves a number of Modicon TSX Premium and Micro PLCs and speed drives in charge of controlling the machines and managing the flow of bottles.
The installation and commissioning of the system took less than three months, a record time considering this large-scale project.
One of the key success factors was the easy access to information for monitoring the installation:
* Integrated, consistent diagnostics with time stamping at source and messages in plain text.
* Programming-free display and control of faults and alarms via graphic operator screens.
* Information can be accessed and exchanged from any point of the architecture due to network transparency.
Schneider Electric has also been awarded a large project to automate the signal distributing building (nodes). One of the main reasons for the successful tender was the Fast Ethernet offer and openness with Premium III.
The overall application consists of about 600 nodes to be remotely monitored and controlled for fire detection, intrusion, temperature, status of signal distribution and support of power generation.
Schneider Electric is a power and control specialist, providing innovative solutions for distribution, industrial control and automation through people around the world.
