The quantity of product entering a sewerage plant is an important criterion for effective control of the complex system. The amount of air brought into the aeration basin depends on the amount of waste water that enters the plant. This controls the activity of the bacteria that break down the contaminating substances.

To avoid the sensors getting dirty from the high solid content of the waste water, non-contact measurement of the flow volume is usually recommended. Vega offers a suitable ultrasonic sensor, the Vegason 61, which can measure speedily and accurately the changing level height in channels, as the flow volume changes.

In the majority of sewerage treatment plants, the inflowing water is transported via screw conveyors or pumps. The main inlet chamber level is used to control the rate of pumping. Some sewerage treatment plants operate only on a minimum/maximum point level detection, but continuous level measurement using ultrasonic sensors has a proven and established track record. The Vegason 63 is a suitable non-contact device for level measurement at the pump well.

The ultrasonic sensors of the Vegason series are especially suitable for the application due to their efficient transducers. Wiring and installation effort is minimised because of the two-wire technology. Parameter adjustment is easy and the sensor is maintenance-free for continuous operating conditions.
