September 2006
News
The Emergency Power Supplies Conference, presented by IDC Technologies, will be held on 22 and 23 November 2006 in Johannesburg. Both national and international experts in this field will be presenting.
The general areas that will be covered at the conference are:
* Uninterruptible power supplies standby.
* Battery design and selection.
* Standby and emergency power generation and distribution.
* Quality of supply including earthing and harmonics.
The organisers are calling for papers on the topics of emergency and standby power supply systems, batteries, and achieving good quality power supplies. Topics of interest are:
* Battery system design.
* Battery selection.
* Battery installation and maintenance.
* UPS selection and design (including manual bypass, static bypass, no-break systems, earthing/harmonics/RFI case studies).
* Selection of standby plant (considering type, short-break/no-break/parallel operation, location, sizing with regard to load, motor starting, earthing/harmonics case studies).
* Installation and maintenance of standby plant.
The organisers are looking for case studies, state-of-the-art and practical applications of emergency and standby power supply systems, batteries and achieving good quality power supplies. Speakers are eligible to attend the full conference at no cost.
This two-day forum will cover a selection of case studies and examples of real world working systems in the manufacturing, healthcare, military, mining, water, electrical, telecommunications and processing industries. The conference will provide information of interest to engineering managers, chief engineers, electrical and instrumentation engineers, plant engineers, automation engineers, control engineers, mechanical engineers, operators and technicians and anyone actively involved with implementing or optimising an emergency power supply or standby plant and looking for reliable power supplies.
