Temperature transmitter gets stainless steel enclosure and HART transmitter

August 2006 Temperature Measurement

The iTEMP TMT162 temperature transmitter from Endress+Hauser is now available with a stainless steel housing and HART smart transmitter. Thus, in addition to being corrosion resistant, the transmitter has also been prepared to accept inputs from two different sensors at the same time, regardless of whether they are single or dual sensor input sensors.

"The TMT162 still offers customers a choice for the highest measurement quality, stability," says Trevor Fletcher, Endress+Hauser product manager for temperature. According to him the product has been enhanced to suit more industries and a larger variety of applications.

In the oil, gas and chemical industry, elements present in the working environment can prove detrimental to the lifespan and performance of transmitters and sensors. The instrument housing is usually protected with multiple layers of epoxy or polyurethane coating, but this solution only provides corrosion resistance for a short period of time before the coating starts to peel off, creating a potentially hazardous environment. The new stainless steel housing on the TMT162 offers a corrosion prevention solution that will not peel, rust or dissolve. This creates a safe working environment for the plant and personnel involved.

Other features of the TMT162 include a dual compartment flameproof enclosure, fully potted electronics, and gold-plated terminals that provide ultimate protection in the harshest environments. A brilliant blue back-lighted display can be read easily from a distance, in sunlight or even at night. Large measured values, bar-graphs and fault indications are all displayed and allow output to be easily recorded.

The TMT162 follows Endress+Hauser's proactive approach to safety in that the transmitter is fully compliant and in accordance with good engineering practice for Safety Instrumented Systems, up to SIL 2.
