Submersible pumps effective in mining applications

August 2006 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

High efficiency compact EIM submersible pumps are, according to the supplier, a popular choice for both open pit and underground mines, having given many years of service to the South African gold mining industry. This range of super high head submersible pumps from the KHT series makes extremely high head one-step pumping possible.

Installation costs are reduced because they are portable with no piping or valves needed on the suction side. The heavy-duty, robust construction makes them ideal for shaft bottoms, level and main pumping for underground mines and open pit mining.

These competitively priced, 22 to 150 kW submersible pumps from the super-high head KHT series all come with abrasion resistant wear parts high chrome and integral cooling systems.

Discharge water circulates outside the motor housing making it possible for the pump to work continuously at full load regardless of whether the electric motor is above or under water. The bearings are heavy duty, with deep grooved ball bearings for the upper bearing and angular ball bearings for the lower bearing

The shaft is carbon steel coated with anti-abrasive high strength alloy on the mechanical seals and shaft location. This provides extra protection and reduces wear in these important areas. The dry-type motor is a submersible, three-phase, squirrel-cage induction motor.

The watertight electric cable is protected against leakage with special epoxy resin and the motor protector can be built into stator winding on request. Discharge ranges from 80 to 200 mm and these pumps offer heads from 90 to 105 m and weigh between 370 and 1230 kg. The three phase pumps are available in the range of 220 to 550 V.
