Electronic control to minimise compressed air usage

July 2006 Flow Measurement & Control

EXAIR's new EFC is a user-friendly electronic flow control that is designed to minimise compressed air used on blowoff, drying, cooling, conveying and static elimination operations. This product combines a photoelectric sensor with timing control that limits the use of compressed air by turning the air supply off when no part is present.

The timing control of the unit permits easy tuning to the application requirements because of the number of valve operating modes and timing delays. The compact photoelectric sensor has sensitivity adjustment and can detect objects up to 1 m away. The sensor provides immunity to noise and inductive loads that are common in industrial environments and can be installed in tight spaces with the mounting bracket supplied.

The unit has an electrical connection for voltages from 100 V to 240 V a.c. (50/60 Hz) that can be suitable for applications throughout the world. The NEMA 4 polycarbonate enclosure allows the unit to be used in a wide range of operations, including those in wet locations. In addition, the timing control unit and photoelectic sensor are equipped with a 2,74 m power cord. The three models available are with the same timing control and photoelectric sensor but a choice of a 40, 100 or 200 SCFM solenoid valve.

Applications of the flow control unit include:

* Auto body blowoff.

* Cleaning of packaging.

* Part drying following washing.

* Dust removal prior to packaging.

* Removal of scrap.

* Filling operations.

* Dust removal prior to painting.

* Wiping of contaminants.

* Cooling of hot parts.

* Neutralising of static.

* Cleaning of moulded parts.

Advantages and features of the unit include:

* Electrical connection from 100 V to 240 V a.c.

* Operation in NEMA 4, IP56 environments.

* Compact sensor for mounting in tight places.

* Analog timer with eight functions for on/off, pulsing and delay control.

* Time setting from 0,01 seconds to 120 hours.

* Sensor withstands water and dust to ensure accurate readings.

* Sensor has immunity to noise and inductive loads.

* Sensor has long distance sensing of up to 1 m.

* Operation in temperature between -25°C and 55°C.
