Figure skater sets world record with Monarch instrument

Earlier this year, Natalia Kanounnikova from the 'Women's Entertainment Network' reality TV series, 'Skating's Next Star', set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest spinning on ice skates, live on the Today Show.

Dick Peters and Keith Wentworth, the co-inventors, were on hand with the new Sport-Tach system to verify the speed. The Sport-Tach system consists of an infrared transmitter worn around the waist and a handheld infrared receiver.

In order to guarantee accuracy for this world record event, three handheld Sport-Tach receivers were set up to measure the speed simultaneously. The individual speeds were transmitted to a local computer, where software determined the average speed, 1/100th of an RPM.

Representatives from the Guinness World Records were also present to verify the record. Natalia's World record speed is 308 RPM.
