Siemens sets industrial trends at the 2006 Interkama/Hannover Fair

July 2006 News

Siemens A&D recently took 16 customers to the 2006 Interkama/ Hannover Fair at the Fair grounds in Hannover, Germany. The purpose of the trip was to expose the customers to new technology A&D has to offer and also to offer them an insight into how the products they purchase from Siemens are manufactured. This entailed taking them around to various factories, plants and project sites.

As a leading international supplier of industrial equipment with the widest sector-based integrated portfolio that can be adapted to suit standardised products and systems, Siemens A&D not only perceives trends in production, but sets them worldwide. This is no idle boast, as was demonstrated on the 4700 square metre stand in Hall 9, Booth A72 at the 2006 Hannover Fair and Interkama - a complete array of industrial automation technology at a single venue - from 24 to 28 April, which attracted much interest from international visitors and exhibitors alike.

As a world leader, Siemens sets industrial trends with sector-based portfolio and integrated process solutions. Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) presented numerous sections across its portfolio at the Fair. This ranged from completely integrated solutions for the metals and mining, oil and gas, and pulp and paper industries; a range of products concerning process water issues; its service range including modernisation, migration, connectivity, business-based maintenance, maintenance services and after sales services; through to MES solutions, IT solutions, and power management for industry; as well as SIMATIC, and WinCC add-ons from the WinCC Competence Centre.

A&D pooled considerable sector know-how in cross-Siemens Competence Centres and in marketing this extensive expertise in various industry suites. At the heart of this concept lies the 'totally integrated automation' (TIA) and 'totally integrated power' (TIP) strategies. Some examples of this include the recent acquisition of Robicon and Flender, where it has expanded its portfolio across the entire drives range and significantly enhanced its market access - particularly in the process automation sector; acquiring the Voest Alpine industrial plant construction company to enable I&S to become the leading world supplier for the iron and steel production sector; and the acquisition and integration of USFilter where Siemens is now the number one in water and wastewater treatment.

By looking at the bigger picture, Siemens is able to optimise plants and sub-processes for industry, and with the company's process solutions, plant modernisation and service on site, it is setting the trends for the future and maintaining the competitiveness of its customers worldwide.
