New factory for Spirax-Sarco
July 2006
News
Spirax-Sarco, a company specialising in steam and supplier of controls and instrumentation products, is relocating from its Spartan offices to a new multimillion rand purpose-built factory in Chloorkop, east of Johannesburg, at the end of November 2006. Almost a year ago, Spirax-Sarco acquired Actuators and Controls, t/a Mitech and Proportional Control Technology, t/a PCT. By the end of this year the three companies will be operating under one roof, ideally positioned to service the needs of the South African control valve industry. It was due to the success and positive acceptance of the acquisition within the local market that the Spirax-Sarco head office in UK gave its approval for the new 6120 m² building to go ahead.
The new factory will manufacture the Spirax-Mitech range of control valves, positioners, linear and rotary actuators and bespoke valves for both local and worldwide use. Spirax-Sarco will be responsible for the sales of all products. The factory will also be the administrative hub for the co-ordination of the almost 45 direct sales personnel country wide
A Demand Flow Technology (DFT) concept, a Spirax-Sarco world initiative will be employed. This concept reduces lead times from between six to eight weeks, down to only one week, greatly enhancing the company's service to its clients. In addition to the various offices, manufacturing plant and training facility, the new factory will have standby generators and will be self-sufficient in supplying water for its own industrial use.
With six existing CNC machines in operation at present, an additional R3-million CNC machine is being purchased, with plans in place to have a total of 10 machines by 2009.
Earthworks are complete and an official opening is planned for February 2007. The new Spirax-Sarco building is situated at the corner of Horn Street and Brine Avenue in Chloorkop Extension 23.
