Profisafe is now available for easy installation and communication eliminating the hassle of installation and connecting of cables. The wireless connection is entirely transparent and invisible to the Profibus configuration. All Profibus norm slaves of up to 1,5 Mbit can be connected via the wireless technology. Users can program their applications as accustomed. Profisafe fulfils the following security categories:
* Cat. 4 (EN 954-1).
* AK6 (DIN V 19250).
* Safety Integrity Level - SIL 3 (IEC 61508).
The wireless data transmission does not influence maintenance of the security categories. This means a poor wireless data transmission fulfils SIL3. The Profisafe monitoring system cuts in should poor wireless connection occur due to range or other interference, in just the same way and as with a cable interruption. Profisafe is designed for interference-prone media such as wireless technology, and can manage bit error rates of up to 10-2/h with TÜV and BGA approval.
Profisafe was developed by Thomas Schildnecht of Schildknecht (the company), which specialises in wireless technology.
