VA Solutions is offering the Smartflo range of dataloggers and communicators. The datalogger is a mobile module that records measured values such as flow, levels, pressures and switched digital inputs. A remote connection via GSM/GPRS cellphone system would allow the user to interface to the logger without having to enter the field.
GPRS technology allows for large amounts of data to be transferred at high speeds and at cost effective rates. Data could be transferred under a pre-programmed time schedule, alarm condition or user request. The battery-powered modules are suitable for remote sites where no mains power is available. Solar panels can also be connected to the module should it be necessary. Units are available in a range of configurations: 1, 6, 16 and 32 channel I/O.
VAS offers a complete package where field data is captured, logged and manipulated into graph/trend formats which can be viewed on www.vasolutions.co.za. All data can be downloaded in a CSV format for further manipulation. Reliable security and user access to the dedicated client web interface is installed ensuring that data remains secure. E-mail notification is also available for alarming.
The SMS and e-mail features allow for instant alarm notifications to multiple recipients. Bi-directional communication allows for users to remotely interrogate the module. The user would simply SMS the module a 'STATUS' request and the module would respond with a pre-programmed text output message (client configurable). A typical message could contain information about battery level, measured values, counter values, signal strength and other.
Modules can be configured in a control mode that would enable remote switching of outputs. Inter-communication between modules is also possible. This feature is particularly useful in irrigation pumping applications where reservoir levels are controlled by switching pumps remotely using SMS communication. The product has found success in monitoring, logging and controlling various applications in the water industry.
