Neles started life 50 years ago, as a supplier to the pulp and paper industries - developing new products in conjunction with the big Finnish mills. Over time, it expanded internationally and applied its philosophy of continuous development, customer commitment and reliability in other countries and in other industries.
Today, most of Neles products are consumed by global customers in the petrochemical, refining, chemical, LNG, oil and gas industries, which are also seen as the largest area of potential growth. Neles continues as a leading supplier to pulp and paper mills across the world and firmly intends to maintain this position with its smart products and life-cycle approach to customer needs.
Major industrial customers
There have been many notable recent successes. For example, some 3500 Neles control valves and countless positioners, the company's largest-ever order and worth over EUR 15 million, are currently starting up at the China Shell Petrochemical Complex (a joint venture between Shell and the Chinese government) in Nanhai, Guangdong Province.
Aracruz in Brazil, the world's large producer of eucalyptus pulp, is a major customer for Neles valves and allied products. The company started buying Neles valves in the 1970s and has had a lifecycle agreement with Metso since 1988, which currently covers 40 000 valves. There have also been significant projects for BP, Petrobras, UPM, Stora Enso, Saudi Aramco, Veracel and Arauco, and others.
Development at every level since its inception
Neles has been at the forefront of technology and in recent years has made major strides in the development of both valves and smart positioners to meet the needs of its high-tech global customers in many industries.
Customers with new digital products understandably demand valves that can communicate fluently with their particular DCS (distributed control system). As a result, Neles now works with major DCS suppliers in order to respond to customers' requirements for such integration. Many new product developments are currently underway, particularly in the area of valve design, and Neles expects to launch a number of them during 2006.
