IR sensor includes visual camera option

May 2006 Sensors & Transducers

The Marathon MM Series of high-performance infrared pyrometers is made by Raytek. This premium IR sensor family comes with a choice of through-the-lens or laser sighting methods that make correct sensor operation much easier. MM models are also available with simultaneous realtime video sighting and automated image recording and storage. The thermometers incorporate a live video with data acquisition and sensor programming software that allows for active frame capture, a unique capability delivering valuable new process information at a competitive price.

Rugged and reliable, the Marathon MM Series features an advanced electro-optical design, digital electronics and a user-friendly, pushbutton operator interface. The sensors can be easily set up for standalone operation or configured for a multisensor network. The unit is housed in a sealed IP65 enclosure that withstands the most demanding process environments. Features include:

* Extended temperature ranges.

* Laser and through-the-lens sighting.

* Optional video sighting.

* Video frame capture and recording capabilities.

* Fast exposure time of 1 ms.

* IP65-sealed, rugged stainless steel housing.

* Easy-to-use operator interface.

* Realtime active ambient temperature compensation.

* Remote emissivity adjustment.

Raytek Marathon models have the performance and feature set that meet the requirements of demanding applications. These features include: high-resolution optics, accuracy, repeatability and resolution, programmable relay outputs, simultaneous analog and digital outputs. There is bi-directional RS485 communication that supports networks of up to 32 sensors, DataTemp MultiDrop Software compatible and field calibration software is included.

The broad temperature range, high-resolution optics and expanded feature set allow the MM to satisfy the requirements of numerous applications. The combination of scalable analog and RS485 digital output signals enables seamless integration into existing control equipment or OEM systems.

The new video sighting and frame capture functions mean that users can correctly sight the unit from a remote location and document the sighting. The automatic image capture capability allows users to document exactly when temperatures fall outside of accepted parameters, and shows which products were affected. Marathon MM sensors ensure a consistent manufacturing process and improve efficiency by allowing tighter tolerances that reduce variation and heating costs.

The targeted markets include steel and metals processing; heat treating and annealing, industrial furnaces, kilns and ovens, foundry and casting, forging, laser welding, hot strip mills, hot metal detection. Glass surface temperature measurements; bending, forming, tempering, annealing, sealing and lamination. Plastics processing; extrusion, thermoforming, moulding, welding and sealing. Drying and curing, food processing and semiconductors.

R&C Instrumentation says that the Marathon MM has the best performance-to-price ratio for high-performance IR temperature sensors. All sensors in the Marathon MM product line share common cabling, power and connection schematics - easing installation for different MM models. All Marathon MM sensors are compatible with the Raymtak - transportable kit and Raydisbox - demonstration kit. The Marathon MM sensors are supported by DataTemp MultiDrop Version 4.3.0, this software also integrates the video output from one sensor into the software application for video monitoring and frame capture, as well as field calibration software.
