CSS awarded SAB re-automation contract

May 2006 News

The SABMiller subsidiary of South African Breweries, as part of its ongoing gearing to meet the demands of its customers, has awarded a lump sum contract to Convenient Software Solutions (CSS) Gauteng, to replace and upgrade the current Brewhouse control systems at the Rosslyn brewery.

The scope of the project includes the design, development, installation and commissioning of a control system that includes the replacement of the existing 10 Allen Bradley PLC5 PLCs with four ControlLogix PLCs controlling Flex I/O. Included also is the replacement of the existing DH+ network that is used to communicate with the 1794 Flex I/O with a ControlNet network. CSS will upgrade the existing InTouch ArchestrA system, and replace a custom-written Batch system with RSBatch.

Sithembiso Kunene, project manager, comments: "the reasons why we selected CSS include its quality, the proven expertise of CSS and its staff in Brewhouse upgrades - and the confidence that CSS is a reliable partner for working together on a project in which we share one common goal: making sure that the Brewhouse Control System helps Rosslyn brewery achieve or even exceed expectations in the fields of flexibility, reliability, operability and maintainability."
