Largest ATEX valve installed in Namibia
May 2006
News
OMSA Valves and Instrumentation of Johannesburg installed the world's largest plastic lined ATEX valve at a processing plant in Namibia last year. The valves which are particularly suited to refineries and processing plants due to their ability to handle the most aggressive chemical and solvent extraction plants are supplied by InterApp of Switzerland.
Gregor Hopton, InterApp product specialist with OMSA said: "Europe has already adopted the ATEX manufacturing standard as the norm. South Africa will have to conform to these accepted standards in the very near future, and OMSA is well placed to offer this product, with the associated international standards, upon order and stockholding."

The Bianca ATEX valve is maintenance friendly due to its two-piece body. The valve body is epoxy coated as standard for external protection against the elements. The valve can be manually operated or be fitted with an electrical or pneumatic actuator. The actuators themselves are available with pilot solenoid valves, position indicators or electro-pneumatic positioners.
Gregor continued: "The client in Namibia needed a valve suitable for their large processing activities and we recommended the PTFE lined Bianca ATEX butterfly valve. Seven months after installation our client has not reported a single problem or downtime in the plant. This is the largest Bianca ATEX valve installed in the world to date. We believe that this valve in particular has applications not only locally but further afield in Africa where refineries and chemical and petrochemical plants need a product they can rely on, and with an after-service second to none. We pride ourselves as being a 24/7 on-site troubleshooter. Availability is the key to our successful penetration in this market."
