On 28 and 29 June at the Conference Park, Midrand, this two-day forum with its experienced speakers will highlight and examine the critical issues involved in the application and management of functional safety systems, providing opportunities for participants to discuss their experiences and applications, and helping people to find cost effective and secure solutions to safety problems. The conference presents an industry-wide forum to examine and discuss the latest international practices and standards in safety control systems. Visitors will hear case studies and practical applications by specialists experienced in safety life cycle activities such as hazard and risk assessment and the determination of safety integrity levels (SILs). Topics will be relevant to a wide range of industry sectors including machinery and automation plant, chemical processes, energy and power, pulp and paper and petrochemicals.
Topics at this prestigious event will include:
* Functional safety systems in process automation.
* Control room alarms: part of the problem or part of the solution?
* SIL determination: Tolerable risk versus cost.
* Safety management. Should SA regulators adopt IEC 61511? Benefits of compliance.

There will be two Pre-Conference Workshops: 27 June 2006 - Workshop 1: Hazard risk reduction using safety instrumented systems and Workshop 2: Designing safety instrumented functions.
