Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

HMI dialogue terminal

April 2006 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

Schneider Electric believes that industry sector users will find what they are looking for in terms of networked machines, in particular in the food and beverage and automobile industries, with its new Telemecanique Magelis XBT GT terminal.

New market segments are also targeted, such as intelligent building and service solutions, including applications such as distribution machines for the general public, access control and monitoring systems, and automated lighting and heating control systems in public and private buildings. The compact size (approximately 97 mm) and the simplicity of the Magelis XBT GT make it a suitable automation partner for these emerging requirements.

Says Schneider Electric South Africa's automation product manager, Linda Eales: "This new touchscreen terminal also integrates easily into all Transparent Ready architectures using the latest embedded Web technologies."

This user-friendly terminal offers powerful control and dialogue capabilities, which combine to make it inherently destined to replace pushbuttons and indicator lights:

* Easy to assemble using a simple spring clip system, with no need for any tools.

* Easy to wire using its RJ 45 connectors.

* Easy to use, with its six function keys, operator command acknowledgement buzzer, contrast and brightness adjustments and status monitoring LED.

The screen features:

* 320 x 240 pixel QVGA resolution, the same as that of the 127 mm (5-inch) screens.

* The amber background provides a high degree of visual comfort, and faults indicated in red, visible from a distance.

* A backlit display that provides 50 000 hours of operation.

* Graphic quality is realised with eight levels of grey.

* A variety of fonts, ranging from Latin to Cyrillic, as well as Chinese and Japanese.

* Up to 10 different languages can be used in the same application, leaving the interface creator free to choose the languages as required.

The Magelis XBT GT adapts to any role it is assigned to - whether in a machine manufacturing or user environment, in industry, building or services. With it being easy to configure using Vijeo Designer software, it satisfies the design requirements of the simplest through to the most complex supervisory applications, from production machinery to building automation equipment. Using all the configuration software functions, the user can:

* Create graphic screens and sophisticated animations.

* Extend customisation of specific applications, with data processing using Java language.

* Manage alarms, recipes, security, etc.

* Manage trend curves.

* Reduce project development time and costs.

* Benefit from multistation data sharing.

* Use the alarm function with fault logging for greater traceability.

* Use multiple windows for easy operation of installations.

It is the most communicative product in the Telemecanique Magelis range. The Ethernet connection and embedded FTP server greatly simplify management of diagnostic and maintenance operations, display of application status, and retrieval of historical data from any local or remote PC. Seamless integration into any architecture is achieved using the RJ 45 connector, allowing connection to Uni-Telway/Modbus and Modbus TCP/IP communication networks.

The compact design of the terminal, its user-friendless, ease of wiring and powerful touchscreen user interface all point to the eventual elimination of pushbuttons and indicator lights. These features will attract not only manufacturers of small repetitive machines, but also those making complex standalone or integrated machines. With its numerous approvals and compliance with all standards (IEC 1131-2, CE and C-TICK mark, UL, CSA, NEMA 4 X, UL Class 1, DIV 2 A, B, C, D, etc) the Magelis XBT GT is a truly international operator terminal.
