Going back as far as many in industry can remember, South Africa's supervisory control and data acquisition development house, Adroit Technologies has hosted a monthly technology evening in Johannesburg; attracting manufacturing gurus and technology providers from far and wide to share their insight into leading technologies and related fields.
8 March 8 kicked off a whole new era in Adroit's Technology evenings - the company catered to a full house with a new format for the event, which is now held on a quarterly (as apposed to monthly) basis. In addition, the evening is packed with more valuable information, extra speakers and a sensational prize for a lucky delegate.
This month's prize was the new i-mate K-JAM, donated by Microsoft. The annual Microsoft presentation is always a favourite; this time round solution specialist Werner Wilders gave a presentation on the global giant and where it is heading in the manufacturing arena with special mention of Vista, the upcoming operating system complete with rich graphics and smart client technology.
Continuing the theme of future technology in manufacturing, Adroit's technical director, Mike Lamusse spoke on Adroit's roadmap for the year with special mention of Adroit version 6.0 update 2 due in April: sporting template mechanisms for alarm and event windows, the long awaited printing of alarm windows and a start-up logon facility to secure the user interface. These features have been market driven from important clients in Europe.
A single point of configuration was also spoken about for future releases allowing users to have Adroit maintain their scanning configurations from their PLC programming software. Another deliverable for this year will be an Adroit Web Service allowing users to create HTML and ASP views of their process data via web browsers - even on networked, browser enabled PDAs. Sample HTML and ASP's programs would form part of the distribution to give users a kick start in developing their own solutions.
VIZNET 1.1.1.2 will also ship in April. This version will resolve hyper threading, dual core issues and a few extra features.
VIZNET 2006, set for release around mid year, is cited (by Lamusse) to up performance by 90% in key areas of VIZNET.
Future dates for the technology evenings
7 June 2006, 6 September 2006, 6 December 2006 (subject to change).
