Third Eastern Cape Industrial Technology Exhibition
April 2006
News
Port Elizabeth hosted the third Eastern Cape Industrial Technology Exhibition and as in previous years, it was a great success. The exhibition took place between Wednesday 15 and Friday 17 February in the Fresh Produce Terminal and went off without a hitch.
According to Dev Naidoo, the commercial director of Exhibitions for Africa, "all our plans for creating a networking opportunity to grow the economy in the region have come to fruition and we were successful in attracting the 'right' kinds of visitors to the show." Garreth Jopson of Coastland Sales was delighted that 'important decision makers from Spoornet, Transwerk and Portnet' had paid a visit to his stand.
Johannesburg-based Speciality Metals sold a R16 500 vibratory feeding system to a local customer on the first day. Herbert Cullum, sales director of Speciality Metals was really impressed with the high standard of the exhibits and the amount of effort that had gone into the stands.
There were in the region of 160 exhibitors at the event, some of them first time participants and many of them 'old hands' in fact, Donkin Fans, one of the 'old hands', tired of the heat of the past events, really got involved and installed its products at the venue. According to Donkin's Andy Crowe, 'the last two expos were so hot we decided to provide a more pleasant trading environment.' He added that this is one of their best expos yet in terms of the enquiries they received.
Visitors came from far and wide, examples include a group of 32 Lithuanian CEOs and technical engineers from construction and industrial companies, coming to look at investment opportunities in the region. The next show will be run from 20 to 22 February 2008.
