LightPointe selects Profitek as SA distributor

April 2006 News

LightPointe, a designer and manufacturer of high-speed outdoor wireless products, has recently signed an agreement with Profitek SA, to act as its master channel distributor in South Africa. With this deal LightPointe is further strengthening its position across the region by providing local stock and channel support.

In Profitek, LightPointe has found a strong partner. The Profitek team enjoy many years of experience in process control, instrumentation and networking and have developed SI/VAR customers in a wide variety of business fields, including security systems, building automation and telecommunications.

"The signing of this agreement with a rapidly growing distributor such as Profitek SA, signifies an important step forwards in the new two-tier distribution strategy we are pursuing. It enables us to provide our customers with comprehensive advice from qualified experts and creates a clear point of contact. As such, we are gaining further ground in terms of our distribution channel and our market presence in South Africa," explains Roger Baskerville, VP of sales, EMEA, LightPointe.

"We are delighted to reach this agreement to partner with LightPointe. We strongly believe in the supremacy and opportunities of Ethernet and TCP/IP-based networks, and the LightPointe range of outdoor wireless solutions will enable us to tap into entirely new markets," said Fons de Leeuw, director of Profitek SA.

The optical wireless product family from LightPointe combines the bandwidth of optical fibre with the flexibility of a wireless connection between two points over distances up to 4 km. Optical wireless products transmit voice, data and video seamlessly and with bit rates starting from E1 (2 megabits/s) up to 1,25 gigabits/s.

They can be installed and made ready for operation within a few hours, for a one off cost, whereas the process of applying for licences or laying cables can often take months and incur significant ongoing costs.
