Multiple point laser level measurement

March 2006 Level Measurement & Control

Laser Measurement believes that it has revolutionised the art of point level measurement. While existing options offered for level measurement had only a single point measuring system, its new Laser Scanner offers its users much more than a single point. This sophisticated instrument offers various features such as direct aiming, virtual laser meters and volume scanning.

* Direct aiming allows the client to set the unit to measure up to 100 different points, measuring the distance from the unit to the selected point.

* Virtual Lasermeters allows this one instrument to represent up to 16 virtual distance measuring Lasermeters. This will be useful in applications where the client may have multiple exit chutes, and requires the distance at each chute. The unit will treat each chute as if there was an instrument mounted directly above the chute and will give the required output for that level, therefore creating virtual Lasermeters.

* Volume scanning allows for the unit to scan a solid material within a vessel and determine an output in volume (m3 or f3) thus allowing the client to use this value and the density of the material to calculate the mass.

With its rugged and robust cast aluminium housing the scanner is suitable for most industrial applications. The unit works with a 24 V d.c. at 1,5 A, and four 4 to 20 mA analog outputs. Scans can be scheduled to run at certain intervals or can be run by using the external trigger switch, which allows the user to run a scan at any time.

Applications include stockpiles and any material where the user may have irregular shapes such as a cone-up or cone-down effect when filling or emptying. The Lasermeter LM150S scans multiple points on the surface of the material, thereby accurately calculating the volume. The LM150S is a cost effective way of solving complex level problems.
