The Sysmac CS1, the new high-end PLC from Yelland Control, is designed specifically for complex production facilities or large machines.
The features of this compact, high-performance PLC are: a maximum of 5120 I/O; an execution time of 0,04 µs per bit command; 1 MB program memory; 31 MB data memory; and a maximum of seven expansion racks and up to 96 special I/O modules. The true strengths of the Sysmac CS1 lie in its communication options.
The new internal CPU bus permits the direct exchange of data between the CPU and the modules. In addition, up to 36 RS232C interfaces can be realised. The open concept of the CS1 is underlined by DeviceNet masters and a Profibus/DP master.
The new Ethernet module supports TCP/IP, FTP and UDP/IP protocols and, on the basis of the SMTP protocol, it can send e-mails via an e-mail server both to the Internet and also to a mobile phone. Production parameters, or even alarm indications, can be forwarded in this way.
Expansion of the data memory is achieved by adding flash memory cards. These memory modules are available with capacities of 8, 15 and 30 MB. Using a PCMCIA adapter, the memory module can be read and written via a PC. For production data analysis, the CS1 can generate comma-separated files or, for instance, read formulation management files generated in MS Excel from the memory module.
An important requirement in mechanical engineering is an open communications standard that permits a smooth exchange of data between the production level and the office level. This communication involves up-to-date information on production data, machine performance and production statuses. Machine maintenance, servicing and troubleshooting are other important factors.
The Sysmac PLC systems from Omron offer the following:
* Continuous data flow from the machine to the spreadsheet. The Compolet software package from Omron provides the interface between the PLC and standard office software, such as Excel, Access, Visual Basic, etc. That saves time and money.
* Continuous access to field devices. The Sysmac CS1 high-end PLC and the modular CQM1H PLC contain intelligent gateway functions (FINS - factory intelligent network system). Every field device can be configured, programmed and monitored via any interface of a PLC.
* Servicing via e-mail or mobile phone. Owing to the seamless flow of data through our PLCs, a modem can be connected to any PLC, making it possible to carry out remote polling of other devices.
