Banner Engineering is offering the SL-LS42 Series safety switches - advanced-locking style switches available with a choice of features for more flexibility. SI-LS42 switches can be wired to machine safety control circuitry to keep a mechanical guard locked at up to 1000 Newtons of force until hazardous motion has come to a complete stop, making them good for use with two-channel emergency stop safety modules and gate monitor safety modules.
Selectable features on the SI-LS42 switches include a choice of: two locking mechanisms, spring lock with energised solenoid release or energised solenoid lock with spring unlock; two stainless steel actuator types, rigid in-line; or flexible in-line; and a choice of solenoid voltages, 24 V a.c./d.c. or universal voltage 24-48 V d.c. or 24-230 V a.c.
The SI-LS42 head rotates in 90° increments and can be positioned for either horizontal or vertical actuation, allowing engagement from eight different positions. This positioning flexibility allows users to specify and inventory fewer models.
All SI-LS42 models feature positive opening contacts, which are not dependent upon mechanical springs for operation. This design complies with the highest US, European and International standards. Mechanically coded actuators use two independent operating elements to minimise intentional tampering or defeat.
Measuring just 45,0 mm deep, by 42,50 mm wide with a height of 170 mm or 184 mm, depending on model, compact SI-LS42 switches are useful for applications with space limitations.
The SI-LS42 switches are available with two contact configurations. Users can choose one normally open and one normally closed, or two normally closed, silver-nickel alloy contacts rated at 4 A at 250 V a.c. maximum.
These robust switches, with glass fibre-reinforced polyamide thermoplastic housing and stainless steel actuator, withstand harsh environments and have an estimated mechanical life of one million operations. SI-LS42 switches are rated IEC IP67 and operate in temperatures of -30 to +70°C, enabling them to perform in high and low temperature applications.

IT in Manufacturing
Personnel safety systems on machines are often seen as a necessary evil. To function correctly, a safety device is required to be self-checking, which adds more complexity and costs compared to a non-safety device.
