Yokogawa and Intergraph Corporation have collaborated in developing an interface for exchanging engineering data between Yokogawa's CENTUM CS 3000 R3 and Intergraph's SmartPlant Instrumentation(*). Designed and developed to address the needs of both EPCs as well as the plant owners/operators, engineering data entered in SmartPlant Instrumentation can be imported to CENTUM CS 3000 R3 to create the I/O database and function block definition. Vice versa, the engineering data entered on CENTUM CS 3000 R3 can be exported to SmartPlant Instrumentation. Since engineering data is exchangeable in a bi-directional manner, the efficiency of engineering is greatly enhanced and risk of mistakes reduced for plant design phase and the maintenance of either database consistency is facilitated in all phases of the ongoing plant life cycle during Operations & Maintenance.

Reduced engineering iterations and data entry errors
CENTUM CS 3000 R3 and SmartPlant Instrumentation share common engineering data so that the re-entering engineering data can be avoided. Reducing the iterations of engineering saves time and eliminates data entry errors so as to ensure the quality and reliability of the engineering data. As a result, engineering efficiency is greatly improved through all projects engineering changes and providing even greater value particularly for large-scale projects with a large quantity of 1/O signals.
Easy to maintain data consistency
If the Centum CS 3000 R3 database is modified after the plant has been in operation, only the modified data is exported into an XML file, and the XML file can be imported to SmartPlant Instrumentation. Thus, it is easy to keep the databases in CENTUM CS 3000 R3 and SmartPlant Instrumentation equalised and ensure consistency of the databases in all phases of plant life cycle from design, engineering, commissioning, to maintenance.
Target data selectable, data exchange more reliable
When importing engineering data, a list of modified contents is displayed allowing the user to decide upon and select the engineering data for importing according to the domain, controller and I/O card so that the data exchange can be performed reliably.
Scope of data exchange
FCS configuration data such as I/O definition, tag names, function block definition, and fieldbus device information are exchangeable between SmartPlant Instrumentation and CENTUM CS 3000 R3.
When importing the engineering data from SmartPlant Instrumentation to CENTUM CS 3000 R3, the data will be automatically put into CENTUM's IOM builders, control drawing builders and fieldbus builders.
Latest information files of I/O module and fieldbus device can be downloaded from the Internet
Yokogawa has a dedicated website for SmartPlant Instrumentation users to download the latest definition files of CENTUM CS 3000 R3 I/O and fieldbus device. After downloading these definition files, using the SmartPlant Instrumentation Catalog Manager for CENTUM CS 3000, a list of CENTUM CS 3000 R3 I/O and FF Devices become available in the SmartPlant Instrumentation reference database. Users can then simply drag and drop the components to be used for the project's design configuration.
Operational environment
When both SmartPlant Instrumentation and CENTUM CS 3000 R3 are installed, the engineering data can be mutually exchanged. The required optional packages and software versions are as follows:
CENTUM CS 3000 R3: Standard Builder Function Package R3.06.10 or later version (no optional package required).
SmartPlant Instrumentation: optional package of SmartPlant Instrumentation CS 3000 Catalog Manager version 7.0 SP2 or a later version.
