December 2000 Sensors & Transducers

For over 40 years, Trolex has specialised in the design and manufacture of sensors for heavy industries. A leader of safety monitoring technology with an ongoing development program to ensure its continuing ability in innovation and the production of cost-effective solutions to meet the demands of safety critical industries.

The company aims to provide its customers with a complete solution to its measuring and monitoring needs with high standards of quality and service. Sensors for temperature, flow, level, pressure, gas, flame and vibration, a comprehensive range of programmable controllers/trip amplifiers and a selection of indictors, it is able to offer 'total packages' with the assurance of functional compatibility.

Its applications engineers can provide full installation and commissioning services when required.

Trolex is experienced in meeting the needs for demanding applications in the power generation industry, railways, mining and mineral extraction, tunnelling, petrochemical processing, water treatment, offshore, materials handling and process control. Quality is crucial when supplying equipment to safety critical industries and Trolex carries accreditation from many leading institutions and corporations.

A coordinated product design strategy makes for a closely integrated range of sensors and control modules, with a comprehensive choice of user options and functional compatibility.

Trolex performs rigorous integrity testing to guarantee reliable performance, with 100% test and inspection to ensure conformance to specification and safety in operation, which it backs with a two-year performance warranty.

The products feature purpose-designed housings for arduous operating environments where reliability is important. They exhibit ease of access, convenient installation, protection against severe environmental conditions and high tolerance to shock and vibration. There are user programmable functions with a choice of output signal format or datacomms: 4 to 20 mA; 0,4 to 2 V, 5 to 15 Hz, RS232, RS485, Modbus, Profibus, Audicom.

Trolex also offers directly compatible control and display terminals for plant-wide data collection and graphic display systems.

The company's abilities include explosion-protected and intrinsically safe design expertise for hazardous areas, as well as conformance with International Standards and European requirements for EMC compatibility and compliance with all relevant ATEX directives.

After many years of Trolex being represented by agents in South Africa, Trolex SA was established in Jet Park, Johannesburg in February 1998.
