PLCopen has awarded Rockwell Automation with Reusability Level (RL) certification for its RSLogix 5000 Structured Text (ST) programming language.
RL certification recognises IEC 61131-3 compliant software platforms that permit the ability to interchange control application code between other compliant products. This compliance helps reduce the time-intensive effort of re-creating Structured Text when moving between different vendors' control platforms.
RSLogix 5000 is the common configuration and programming software for the entire Logix5000 family of controllers from Rockwell Automation, including CompactLogix, ControlLogix, FlexLogix, DriveLogix and SoftLogix.
"This gives users the ability to develop a broad range of applications in a single programming environment and then choose from a fully scaleable controller platform in which to deploy it," says Clive Barwise, commercial manager ACIG, Rockwell Automation. "By choosing a system like Logix5000 with PLCopen Reusability Level certification, manufacturers are making a good investment," says Barwise.
"Manufacturers can create libraries of ST code that can be applied across a wide range of control products. In addition to improving design productivity and re-use, this also allows you to evolve existing control systems to leverage newer more up-to-date technology such as Logix5000."
