Ball valve suitable for power station applications
December 2000
Valves, Actuators & Pump Control
The standard metal-seated manual ball valve from Valvtechnologies is supplied with a four-year warranty when used for high-pressure water and steam isolation duties in power stations. This is of particular significance when it is known that the existing valve that it replaces can often require maintenance within a period of from only two weeks up to one year.
The manual ball valve's integral seat design improves performance over conventional replaceable seats and its sealing surfaces, made from hard chrome carbide alloy, are diamond lapped for a precision fit.
Its ceramic coating and special construction provide good corrosion resistance, allowing the valve to be used in temperatures up to 1000°C. Easy to actuate with a quarter-turn action, the valve features butt weld ends, F22 chrome molly, #2 500 and is available in sizes from 20 to 65 mm. Manufactured to ISO 9001 requirements, the valve has a bubble-tight shut-off to ANSI FCI 70-2. This is achieved with the inclusion of an integral downstream seat, which is completely protected from the flow path.
The major advantage of the ball valve in high-pressure water and steam isolation applications is its lever operation, which makes the valve easy to operate as well as giving highly visible valve position indication. (Both globe and gate valves often fail if they are left in a partially open position.)
A variety of Valvtechnologies' pneumatic double acting and spring return actuators, electric motors or hydraulic actuators, in addition to gear operators are also available. Various options include bi-directional sealing, control trims, special end connections and hard coatings, various materials of construction, sizes up to 400 mm and pressure classes to ANSI 4 500.
