A new family of graphical recorders, called the Chessell DAQ Series 5000, have been launched by Eurotherm. The recorders, which meet a wide range of data recording functions in the power generation as well as across many industries, use leading edge 32 bit RISC processor technology to significantly reduce component count, and thus the TCO (total cost of ownership). These instruments also feature high quality I/O, multifunction touch sensitive screens and the ability to be networked, enabling archiving of data into plant-wide data networks.
The first two instruments in the series to be released are designed to directly replace standard 100 and 180 mm panel mounted chart recorders, they will allow plant and equipment upgrades to be implemented with minimal redesign. The Model 5180V in particular, with its 300 mm display, provides similar visibility and visual accuracy to 250 mm paper chart recorders.
The 5100V offers up to 12 input channels, while the 5180V offers up to 24 signals being DC V, DC mV, DC mA, TCs, RTD or contact closure. Sample rate is 125 ms as standard. High noise rejection and isolation on all I/O channels (250 V ch/ch and ch/gnd) results in high measurement integrity in the harshest of environments. The allocation of one A/D converter per I/O channel negates the need or relays or solid-state switching and provides continuous measurement and parallel sampling on each input.
In terms of data archiving, removable storage media are either 3,5" floppy or PC cards with up to 1 GB of memory. Data is transferred from the instrument's non-volatile memory in hourly, daily or weekly files. All data is stored in tamper-proof binary format that can be used for long-term records of production.
