Industrial and home controller

December 2005 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

A cost effective industrial and home controller designed for ease of use and programming, the FAB Controller relay series is able to communicate electronically with Scada Citect process visualisation software.

Developed primarily for the electronic supervision and control of residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural processes, Array Electronics' FAB Controller products are versatile with high performance and can facilitate both short distance (up to 1,2 km) and long distance networking. Connection is by modem via AF-C232/AF-D232 or AF-M232 or telephone voice module. Using the latter, one can connect without AF-C232/AF-D232. Applications include:

* Room and corridor illumination, shutter and sunshade devices.

* Heating, airconditioning and ventilation systems.

* Alarm, signal, railings and gate control systems.

* Automatic lighting control in tunnels and long-range inter-city surveillance.

* Agricultural irrigation and laser light control.

* Conveying and power management systems

* Elevators and escalators.

* Cable welding machines, industrial saw and winding machinery.

* Boilers and compressors.

The units can be panel or DIN rail mounted. The 10 I/O unit measures 90 x 71 mm and the 20 I/O unit measures 90 x 126 mm. The AC model will run from 85 to 260 V, and the DC model from 10,2 to 28,5 V. Relay output will handle 10 A with resistive loads, 2 A with inductive loads and the transistor output is rated up to 2 A.

Features

There is no need to learn Ladder Logic as programming is done by way of easy-to-use function blocks that handle all the internal logic for the user. To instruct the unit to phone the user, the telephone function block is used for entering the phone number to dial and then that function block is connected to the input position that monitors the alarm device. When the alarm occurs, the FAB controller handles the phone call and plays the pre-recorded alarm message. The device has ability to also source or receive a phone connection.

Depending on the programmed and recorded messages, users can monitor and control equipment connected to the FAB Controller. Up to 98 messages may be recorded onto the MUL unit which is attached to the FAB Controller. These messages can be announced over external speakers or via telephone connection.

Each date/time function block can hold a number of time events by date or by weekly events. Considering that the memory can hold up to 127 function blocks, quite a complex schedule of events may be built up to control a number of devices from just one FAB Controller.

Imported by Flexible Electronic Systems (FES), the FAB Controller 'dial-up' long-distance networking relay series is imported from Taiwan-based Array Electronics. FAB products can be ordered from FES's distributor countrywide network.
