Penmac takes on the University of Technology

October 2005 News

Early September, and with the anticipation of spring on the Highveld, 30 companies came together in the Vaal Triangle with the first co-operative venture with the Vaal University of Technology.

The University was tasked with co-hosting a technical conference during the two-day exhibition, and focused on Control Instrumentation and Computer Science. Applied Technology papers were presented by companies in the industry, while theory was facilitated largely by the University. In total the University has over 15 000 students on various campuses throughout the Highveld region, however this event was limited to industry role players only.

This event also introduced a change in times from the regular Penmac shows, and welcomed visitors from 10h00 to 17h00 on both days. A strong crowd of industry specialists attended throughout the two days and set a new Penmac record of visitors to these localised events with over 300 attendees.

Participating companies at this year's industry showcase in the Vaal were:

Adroit, Atlas Industrial, Autotech Weighing, Burkert, Citect, Control Techniques, Danntech, Extech Safety Systems, Festo, Gas Monitoring Systems, GE Fanuc, H. Rohloff, Honeywell, IAC, IDX OnLine, Imvula Consulting, Laser M, Loadtech, Mantech Electronics, Microsoft, National Instruments, OMSA, Rockwell Automation, Sangari SA, Sasol Solvents, Secucell, Shorrock, Staro, Tecmo Automation, Temperature Controls, Thermo Electron, Throughput Technologies, Tyco Valves and Controls, Vaal University of Technology, Westplex, WNIP and Yokogawa.

Three more Roadshows are left for 2005 on the Penmac calendar, and they include Lichtenburg, Pietermaritzburg and Amanzimtoti. The regular followers of the Penmac programme will have noticed that due to the close geographical location of the Vaal show, we have moved the Lichtenburg event into a previously announced slot for Klerksdorp. Klerksdorp has been deferred to a later date.

The 2006 Roadshow schedule is due to be announced shortly and will be available for viewing and booking on the Penmac website.
