PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

PC, PLC and HMI all in one

June 2005 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

The PPC 5006 CP control panel from Phoenix Contact is a highly available combination of an industrial PC with touch display, PLC and HMI. Equipped with a boot operation system, NVRAM, PLC switch and diagnostic LEDs, this control system behaves like a conventional PLC. Together with IPC functionality, it is possible to communicate across all standard interfaces and a variety of fieldbuses. As a result of its high performance, it can take over the machine's control, regulating and visualisation tasks.

The integrated soft PLC turns an industrial PC into a high-performance PLC. PLC programs are processed and loaded, and debug functionality is provided for programming, start-up and maintenance of PLC-controlled machines and systems. Multiprog delivers a programming system for machine control that supports all IEC 61131 languages. This includes instruction list (IL), structured text (ST), function block diagram (FBD), sequential function chart (SFC), and ladder diagram (LD). A machine ladder diagram is integrated into the programming system. As well as a host of programming languages, the system showcases intuitive programming, clearly structured project management, a fully graphical editor and cross-translation capability.

The control system includes a machine visualisation system that can be operated simply and intuitively, which also has a powerful capacity to dynamise objects. Object instances that can be used several times improve work efficiency. With an integrated fieldbus master including a configuration tool for the standard fieldbus systems Interbus, Profibus, CANopen and DeviceNet, the PPC 5006 CP is a powerful control system.
