Controllers for use with scada
June 2005
PLCs, DCSs & Controllers
Gefran has introduced a range of controllers and indicators that can interface with scada, ensuring effective process optimisation. Manufacturing products of consistent quality is mostly achieved through regular monitoring and controlling of various parameters in the production process. Scada is a perfect software tool for this purpose as it can analyse and control the various parameters in the process by reading all the data straight from the process controller or indicator. However, certain instrumentation manufacturers are not compatible with scada software.
Gefran has introduced a range of process controllers and indicators that can communicate with the scada software via a Modbus interface. Users can take advantage of the unique benefits of scada while using Gefran's reliable instruments as the hardware interface. When using Gefran through the scada system, all parameters become available on a Modbus Network. Consequently, it is possible to log and store data, monitor trends over a long period, set alarms, change setpoints and configure and control various parameters such as PID.
The user can set up the process in such a way that the control part of the process is coordinated via the controller and the monitoring part via the scada system. This will result in a more reliable system as the controller will still control the process even if there is no communication from the PC. Gefran's instruments allow easy linking between the Modbus interface and scada software, thus, making this complete system a user-friendly tool for process optimisation.
