25 years of quality measurements
June 2005
News
The Test & Measurement 2005 Conference and Exhibition represents a watershed event. It is the 25th year that calibration and testing laboratory personnel will get together to learn, be updated and participate in the transfer of technology in their various fields of interest.
Steve Sidney, chair of the organising committee and manager of the NLA, has pointed out that whilst there have been many scientific advances in areas such as computing, communications and control systems, it is often surprising that fundamental measurements are often overlooked. He is encouraging all those who wish to gain a better understanding of these issues to attend this event. There is always a strong educational flavour to the various papers that are presented, thus catering for the needs of both experienced practitioners as well as new entrants to the field.
There have been a substantial number of papers submitted and it is expected that over the 3-day duration of the conference there will be in the order of 60 to 70 sessions. There is something for everyone, ranging from accreditation to quality assurance, traceability to measurement uncertainty, reference materials and proficiency testing to laboratory management. The event has attracted a wide range of international contributions as well as from Africa, the SADC and of course South Africa.
Exhibition
In keeping with the 25th year of the T&M Conference, this year's event has attracted a substantial number of leading suppliers to the exhibition that runs alongside the conference. For the first time the exhibition will be open to all members of the laboratory community who are only in a position to attend the exhibition but not the conference.
The open days for the exhibition are Tuesday and Wednesday 6 and 7 September, however, to attend the exhibition it will be necessary to register via the website - or on the day. In due course, a list of all the suppliers who will be exhibiting (all space is already booked) will be made available on the website giving attendees a good indication of the quality and range of products that will be on display.
