Flow Measurement & Control

Variable-area flowmeter

May 2005 Flow Measurement & Control Level Measurement & Control

Interkama 2005 saw Krohne introducing an addition to the family of its H 250 all-metal VA flowmeters. This device is capable of measuring downward flow direction. This means that the H 250 is now available for all directions of flow, both horizontally and vertically. The H 250 U flowmeter features all the advantages of the H 250 family. The H 250 U is suitable particularly for use in plants where, for example due to the process, the direction of flow is from top to bottom.

The H 250 U flowmeter operates on a modified float measuring principle in which a guided float adjusts so that the flow forces acting on it are in equilibrium with a counteracting elastic force. Like the other devices of the H 250 series, two electrical signal converters in 2-wire technology are also available for the H 250 U. The ESK 2 features an analog current output 4 to 20 mA with HART interface, while the ESK 3 is equipped with Profibus PA interface. The process temperature range is between -70 and +200°C, the ambient temperature range in the standard version is -20 to +90°C.

With M9 indicator, the float position is indicated direct as a flow rate on the scale. The multipole, patented ring magnet is a component part of an effective eddy-current brake. For aggressive atmospheres or special requirements (eg seawater resistance), the housing can be supplied in corrosion-resistant stainless steel. Connections are optionally available as flanged or screw connections.
