DLM's Rienzi knife gate valve is locally manufactured in an internationally unique process that extends the product's lifespan and reduces maintenance costs.
Manufactured and distributed in southern Africa by DLM, the Rienzi knife gate valve is suitable for abrasive-duty applications, and comes in a variety of materials with a range of actuator options. While standard valves are available for pressures of up to 1 MPa, Rienzi knife gate valves can be manufactured to suit specific temperature and pressure needs and can be supplied unlined for clean water service.
"The valve is of a robust construction," says DLM's Marc von Ruben. "We use thicker material than is normal for the body, blade and the spindle, to increase durability. This feature reduces maintenance costs, which makes the product popular in the diamond, gold and platinum mining industries. DLM has been manufacturing the range since 1994 when we acquired the rights to manufacture Rienzi products. Rienzi is widely used in the mining industry and is showing growth across all industries."
The Rienzi rubber lined knife gate valve has no bottom cavity where material can accumulate and prevent proper sealing, and the free flow bore minimises turbulence within the valve bore thereby significantly reducing wear. The self-cleaning guides allow for easy cleaning, while the sealing arrangement allows for bi-directional flow.
Rienzi's internationally unique rubber lining process means that there is longer life due to the wear characteristics of natural rubber, and the moulding process used to apply the rubber ensures true bonding and prevents lifting of the liner. Additional rubber on the lower sealing surface ensures a bubble tight seal even if small particles are trapped under the blades. This prevents harmful corner leakage, a common initiator of blade failure. Optional blade scrapers prevent build-up of residue on the blade, ensuring smooth operation. The gland seal design of the Rienzi knife gate valve allows for field adjustment and replacement by plant maintenance technicians without the need for special tools or training.
Typical applications for the DLM Rienzi knife gate valve are paper pulp pipelines, mine tailings and slimes, seawater, diamond bearing slurries, coal slurries, soda ash water, power station fly ash and ash water and sewage.
Von Ruben says that the firm is continually investing in research and development to ensure that state-of-the-art products are created, while quality and cost effectiveness are maintained. With branches in Cape Town, Durban, East London, Polokwane, Rustenburg, Vereeniging, Welkom and a head office in Modderfontein, Johannesburg, von Ruben believes the firm is in a position to service the entire industry. The head office also includes a workshop and test facility to cater for major repairs, inspection or tests for product reconditioning. The company has in-house technicians to service its products and an engineering department for the installation and commissioning of turnkey projects.
