A prominent mining concern has fully equipped the first of a number of drag lines with the NewElec MA range of motor protection relays which also included two 3,3 kV motors. The customer considered these motor protection relays superior to other evaluated brands in that they offered a complete and comprehensive protection platform as well as a range of communications protocols for use at a later date.
NewElec now caters for Profibus DP, Modbus and Canbus and they are developing other communications modules for other popular protocols. Third party cards cater for DeviceNet.
NewElec's free front-end software is frequently revised so as to accommodate a user-friendly motor performance recording utility as well as clever logic functions with regard to the I/O mapping and usage.
The fact that NewElec's products are designed and manufactured locally has been considered an added bonus with regard to guarantees, repairs and support for the products for many years to come. The relays are versatile because of the manner in which they can be programmed, and their user-friendly interfaces.
