The fourth international exhibition of Pumps, Valves and Pipes Africa sees an exponential boom as three major water industry events join forces at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg in June 2005.
Water Focus Africa
An exhibition of products and technology for a continent committed to upgrading infrastructure and service delivery, WFA is being staged in collaboration with the African Water Association (previously known as the Union of African Water Suppliers). This body represents over 100 utilities in 35 countries.
International Pumps Conference
Organised by The South African Institution of Mechanical Engineering, endorsed by The South African Pump Manufacturers' Association and sponsored by the international publication, World Pumps, this conference is themed 'Life cycle costs with a view to reducing the total cost of ownership of pumping systems'. Leading pump manufacturers, end users, consultants and industry experts both local and international will be presenting papers and be available to address issues affecting pump users.
Water Services Convention: Focusing on Rural Water Supply
Organised by Trade Conferences International and endorsed by IMIESA. The Convention will focus closely on the opportunities and challenges in developing rural water supplies. In doing so it will feature the future direction of policy and legislation for the rural water supply sector, examine practical and technical applications via in depth case studies, and initiate panel discussions based on grass roots experiences. Other matters to be addressed will include amongst many others: ensuring water quality, the sustainability of water projects through capacity building and community-based developments, effective water resource management, the role women play in rural water supply and the option of water services franchising.
This line up of quality events is attracting equipment suppliers as well as the utilities themselves. The first to confirm its participation was Johannesburg Water. Jameel Chand of Johannesburg Water says: "It is the first time Johannesburg Water is taking part in the exhibition, but it makes enormous sense for us to be there considering the number of pumps, valves and pipes used in the distribution of water to households and businesses in and around Johannesburg. "The theme of our main stand is New Service Delivery and in particular our Operation Gcinamanzi project, focusing on the new prepaid water meter as well as the new Johannesburg Water billing system. It is important exposure for the organisation. Members of our executive committee will be attending the conferences to gain ideas and insights into upgrading our infrastructure."
Pumps, Valves & Pipes Africa is supported and endorsed by more professional industry organisations than any other trade event on the continent, demonstrating the value of the exhibition as a true 'showcase for Africa'. Organisations include African Water Association, Association of Steel Tube & Pipe Manufacturers of South Africa, The Institution of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa, South African Pump Manufacturers Association, South African Valve & Actuator Manufacturers' Association, Valve Manufacturers of South Africa, Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa, The South Africa Institution of Chemical Engineers, South African Bureau of Standards, The South African Capital Equipment Export Council and the South African Institution of Mechanical Engineering.
"Launched in 2000, Pumps Valves & Pipes has attracted tremendous international attention and we are receiving inquiries from around the world," says Exhibition Management Services' John Thomson. "We currently have confirmed bookings from Italy, Turkey, the UK, India, Germany and Spain." The exhibition is aimed at the entire pumps, valves and pipes product profile as used in water utilities, the mining industry, the petrochemical industry, the food and beverage industry, the pulp industry, irrigation and other specialist areas.
