Optec sensors were originally designed and manufactured at the request of the dairy industry for accurate continuous measurement of milk to water ratio as well as milk fat content. This saved the industry millions of litres annually by very accurately determining the interface between milk and water. The principle of operation is based on spectral analysis techniques. By using a wide range of different wavelengths of light the units can detect a wide range of product concentrations.
The range of instruments
OPTEC-F spectrophotometers analyse low turbidity, colours and chemical concentrations and are used for filtration monitoring, soft drink dosing systems, clean water quality monitoring etc. These analysers operate from minimum 0 to 5 FTU (Formazine Turbidity Unit) to maximum 0 to 1500 FTU. This unique measuring method operates in the NIR or IR bands and is adjustable according to the product to be measured.
OPTEC-M concentration analysers are engineered to measure high concentrations of non-dissolved solids in liquids and designed to operate under the most demanding process conditions with a ranges from 0 to 1500 FTU and up to 0 to 10 000 FTU.
OPTEC-R process refractometers, engineered for accurate in-line measurement of dissolved solid in liquids, are being used in numerous food and beverage processes. Typical applications include total sugar content in juices and other beverages, salt content of water in cheese brining and the measurement of total solids in milk when increasing solids during yoghurt base manufacturing. This highly accurate analyser has also found applications in the chemical industry for acid and caustic measurements.
TTS OPTEC analysers are manufactured to stringent quality control procedures and conform to CE and 3A and are powered by a 24 V d.c. power supply with 4 to 20 mA outputs calibrated in FTU, Brix, mg/l or percentage. DLM has been awarded sole southern African distribution rights for the OPTEC range of analysers manufactured by TTS Technologies of Finland.
