StreamPix is a digital video recording software package for acquiring live uncompressed or compressed video directly to a computer's hard disk or RAM memory. It runs on Windows XP and Windows 2000, and allows users to capture video in uncompressed format and save it in realtime to a hard drive using off-the-shelf PC technology. Time-lapse acquisition can be implemented. It is also possible to use codecs for compression to AVI format. Performance depends on CPU power and camera frame rate.

It supports a wide selection of Firewire, analog CCIR, YC, RGB, Pal colour, Camera link or digital high frame rate cameras from numerous manufacturers. StreamPix acquires images at rates up to 240 MB/sec, high-speed acquisition up to 2000 frames/sec, image video sequences from multiple cameras on single computer or a network of computers. It exports sequence files to TIFF, BMP, JPEG, AVI and many more image formats.

Plug-in modules for time stamp recording, levels, off line Bayer filter conversion, histogram, colour balance, image de-interlacing, overlay comments are included. StreamPix now includes drivers for all Basler digital camera products such as the A100, A300 and A600 series IEEE 1394 cameras and also works with Basler cameras that have RS422, LVDS, and Camera Link output.

In the example shown, images are acquired and recorded simultaneously from eight Basler A601 cameras. Each camera is running at a frame rate of 80 fps with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The system is comprised of four computers. Each computer controls two cameras. Among the four computers, there is one master computer and three slaves. Each computer controls two cameras. To assure and simplify the whole system operation, the master computer also runs an instance of the StreamNetServer application. StreamNetServer allows the management and operation of eight instances of the StreamPix software from a single user interface. Communication between StreamNetServer and all StreamPix instances is performed via a network connection and TCPIP protocol.
