Southern African scada and MES conference

March 2005 News

IDC Technologies, together with some of South Africa's leading engineers and technicians are presenting the 2005 Southern African scada and MES Conference.

Scada has traditionally meant a window into the process of a plant or the gathering of data from devices in the field. Now, however, the focus is on integrating this process data into the actual business to use in realtime. The emphasis today, is on using Open Standards such as communication protocols (eg, DNP3 and TCP/IP) and off-the-shelf hardware and software (to keep the costs down).

Manufacturing execution systems (MES) are being more widely investigated, evaluated and implemented than ever before. The reason for this is that the implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are being completed and the information required by these ERP systems are becoming more apparent. Most scada technology vendors have acquired or developed their own MES technology and are making this available to industrial companies as value-added products.

This two-day conference is an event not to be missed for those actively involved with implementing and optimising scada and MES technologies - technologies vital to the mining, water, electrical and processing industries. Case studies and examples of scada and MES systems, including troubleshooting and the latest applications, will be presented by leaders in these fields, during the course of the two days. "Value from the presentations you can measure, whereas the opportunity to network with both attendees and presenters - some of whom are experts in the industry and directly responsible for their systems - will be immeasurable and invaluable," say the organisers.

Pre-conference workshops 10 May 2005

IDC Technologies will also be presenting two half-day workshops on these topics, at the ESKOM Convention Centre.

IDC Technologies' toll-free number is 0800 114 160, and the list of speakers can be seen at www.scada.idc-online.com
