Powerful actuators for the Mozambique gas line

Last year Mitech supplied the two largest actuators it has made on 900 mm ASME900# ball valves, to be used for shutting off the main gas line from Mozambique to Secunda.

The Mitech Megatorque range is a balanced double tandem arrangement using two cylinders and two spring packs. The design features a scotch yoke mechanism that offers a high end torque - ideally suited to a ball valve on on-off duty.

The closing torque generated by the springs was 39 000 Nm, with break torque of 50 000 Nm at 500 kPag, exceeding the output of the actuator recently reported to be the largest produced on the continent, by double.
