As retail marketing becomes increasingly complex, an ever-greater need to handle stock management in realtime has become a necessity that must be adopted, or enterprises risk losing out to the competition. Advantech's rugged Web pad, the MPC-100E, a portable wireless Windows CE-based appliance, combines data capture and communications technology, and is particularly suited for realtime stock management. A well-known South Korean IT service company specialising in providing knowledge assets in merchandising services, distribution and logistics, approached Advantech when it became apparent that the PDAs then in use were no longer capable of handling the increasing demands of stock management. Advantech suggested the MPC-100E as a solution.
After ordering and implementing a system using MPC-100E (including wireless LAN) the client can now control stock in realtime and has greatly increased its interactive customer services. The employees working on location in supermarkets can now easily check the stock status and place orders in realtime with the MPC-100E and an integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. With the ability to display the inventory status of other supermarket locations on the screen of MPC-100E, they can now check other locations' inventories and share important business information with each other. After implementing MPC-100E the client expects to greatly reduce return merchandise authorisation (RMA).

The system
The MPC-100E, which has a high performance mobile Intel Xscale PXA255 400 MHz CPU, allows the client's staff to access large data files and programs from the mobile terminal, anywhere, anytime. With a large 264 mm LCD, the MPC-100E is much more convenient than using a small PDA display. The MPC-100E is ruggedised and constructed for working in harsh environments and is resistant to shock and vibration. The picture illustrates the solution design integrating MPC-100E.
