HMI family with enhanced complimentary software

January 2005 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

Red Lion's G3 family of operator panels offer Ethernet port and CompactFlash socket as standard, and support up to five high-speed serial ports for connection to PLCs, motor drives, temperature controllers, etc. The G3's datalogger allows users to record process values to CompactFlash for later access in CSV format via the integrated Web server, making access to historical data simple.

The G3's powerful communications architecture provides high-performance links to an unlimited number of devices, and allows serial data to be exposed via Ethernet protocols to provide access to even the simplest devices via the enterprise network. With a 32-bit processor and generous amounts of flash storage, the G3 provides performance capable of meeting users' demands for ever more cost-effective solutions. Two free additions to these HMI solutions are the new character and symbol sets, downloadable for free from www.redlion.net

Unicode character set

It is now possible to program the G308 and G310 in Chinese, Thai, Russian, Korean and any other languages supported by the Unicode character set.

The latest build of the Crimson software offers support for thousands of characters used in formats like Cyrillic or Thai. Adjusting the panel's operator language to meet the user preference is literally a touch of a button away, allowing OEMs to use a single database when targeting multiple geographic markets. OEMs can build their panels and at time of shipment, customise the display to the language needed for the customer.

Over 4000 symbols

An extensive symbol library has also been added to Red Lion's Crimson 2.0 programming software. This powerful enhancement provides a selection of over 4000 industrial and manufacturing visualisations, including pushbuttons, tanks, motors and machinery and over 60 other categories. Professional quality graphics are now easily added to customised G3 display pages.

Using the built-in object browser, OEMs can view the various categories, and then drag the selected image on to the display page. Images may be rotated or flipped as required, or even re-colour them, if desired. Since the images are fully scalable without loss of quality, users can precisely adjust them to fit to their applications. Crimson also provides the ability to select between multiple images based on a data value - and to move the image about the screen based on the state of the process - thereby allowing symbols to be animated to provide dynamic indications of plant status.

Crimson 2.0 can also import JPEGs, bitmaps or Windows Metafiles - allowing the user to incorporate clipart images from a virtually unlimited number of Web sources. With all these enhancements, Crimson 2.0 remains free-of-charge.
