On Friday, 8 October 2004, Laser Measurement's 'Dream Team' took on what it believes to be a very rewarding task. About 30 km from its factory in Midrand stands a very poor African community which comprises of children aged 4 to 12 years who come from desperate situations, broken homes or not even a home to speak of. Some of these small children do not have shoes. It has become a project of the marketing team to help these children and most of all to bring some joy and hope in their lives.
The children celebrate
When eight of the LaserM staff members (one from each department) arrived at the school they were welcomed with open arms. As 350 of the 'foundation faces' gathered in front of us, they celebrated and thanked the eight visitors for their generosity. It was not long before all eight were dancing and singing along with the children. Gift packs were handed out, containing a pencil case with a pen, pencil, ruler, eraser, sharpener and candy. Some stationery was also donated to the school. After the celebrations were over the principal and teachers had tea together.
Laser Measurement’s ‘Dream Team’ and the school principal
Laser Measurement would like to continue supporting this school in years to come: "They have over a thousand children and many families who have lost their faith and we will do our best to restore that in each of them."
Products
In 2004, LaserM introduced various new products that included its low cost Pixie+ for short-range applications such as crusher levels up to 15 m, and the rugged and robust LM200 for those longer-range applications for level or positioning up to 60 m.
New products have been under development and will be introduced in the New Year. These products are expected to open doors both for the process control industry and for LaserM. The R&D team have reduced response time and increased accuracies. The new software is easier to use and includes options such as a pre-defined applications list that allows the customer to select an application number, set the setpoints and run the unit.
Lightning protection on both the signal and power supply lines, better dust penetration capabilities and built in mechanical relays in place of switches are a few of the features offered standard on the new laser meters. The long-range products (previously limited to 500 m) have been extended to 1,5 km.
