Pro-Flow purchases Torbar

Pro-Flow, a market leader in the supply of specialised orifice plates and other flow measurement and instrumentation equipment to southern African industries has purchased the UK-based Torbar agency.

Torbar is a reputable company with many years' experience in dependable flow measurement products. Torbars are engineered and manufactured to stringent routines including BS, ANSI, ASME, ISO and DIN standards.

Torbar is also a multi-averaging flowmeter based on the classical pitot tube design concept of fluid flow measurement. It produces an average differential pressure signal proportional to the square of the flow rate.

It is suitable for liquid, gas and steam-flow measurement and has an accuracy of approximately 1% of actual flow rate, verified by independent testing laboratories in the UK. Furthermore, it has a maximum working pressure of up to 50 Mpa and a maximum working temperature of up to 600°C.

The Tribar range is a fully integrated flowmeter combining rugged averaging pitot tube insertion flowmeters with three-valve manifold and direct mounted industry standard programmable differential pressure transmitters.

In another configuration, as the Mass Tribar, it is fitted with a PT100 RTD temperature sensor within an integral pressure-tight thermowell and multivariable DP transmitter. The transmitter measures absolute pressure, process, sensor, electronics temperature and differential pressure. It calculates density and mass flow by correcting the volumetric flow for temperature and pressure changes. Providing a 4-20 mA and digital communication output directly linear to mass flow it thus removes the need for both a temperature transmitter and a mass flow computer.

Both the Tribar and the Mass Tribar are suitable for liquid and gas flow measurements in a variety of industries from petrochemical to food processing, and because the flow sensor has no moving parts to wear, it requires very little maintenance.

The flowmeters provide cost and space savings. They require just one or two hole installations in pipe diameters from 15 mm to 10 m, or in square or rectangular ducts.

Reliability is enhanced because there is only a single sealing face between the flow element and transmitter. Reduced piping, faster response and zero transmission lags are just some of the additional advantages associated with these products.
