NI Technical Symposium 2004

November 2004 News

National Instruments (NI) South Africa will be presenting its annual measurement and automation conference, the NI Technical Symposium, in Cape Town on 24 November 2004, and in Midrand on 26 November 2004. The primary focus of this event is to expose attendees to solutions within industry, and to showcase new National Instruments technologies.

The NI Technical Symposium is a complementary, full-day event featuring a variety of instructor-led sessions for test, measurement and control. With three international presenters, and five from local industry, this conference will assist engineers and scientists with application development through a variety of software and hardware hands-on sessions, and technical presentations given by industry experts and National Instruments developers.

This year's conference will also be more focused, with two targeted tracks, for both new and advanced users, bringing more than 27 years of NI advancements, together with recent product innovations to the floor. These include NI LabVIEW 7.1 - the most widely used software for test, measurement, and control; the impact of future technologies such as PCI Express; NI's new M Series data acquisition plug-in boards; new CompactRIO for embedded industrial control; low-cost USB data acquisition products, and new high-performance mixed-signal PXI test instruments.

Local experts in industry will give presentations on projects where they have used various NI technologies. These organisations include Shurlok International, The University of Pretoria, IST Industrial and TLC Software. Shurlok International will give a presentation about the development of an automated test bench for testing electronic modules used in the BMW 3 Series. The University of Pretoria will discuss the National Instruments Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite (NI Elvis) and its uses in computer modelling and simulation. IST Industrial will present a segment about a loose parts monitoring system designed for Eskom Koeberg Nuclear Power Station. TLC Software will give a presentation about the measurement and analysis of electrical power.
