Circuit Breaker Industries, in conjunction with fellow members of the Reunert Group, ATC and African Cables, recently hosted a highly successful two-day conference entitled the 'Flip Side'. Held at the Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel in Gaborone, Botswana, it was the first of a number planned for this year, and was reported to have attracted an excellent turnout - including engineers, consultants and contracting firms.
When asked why the conference had been called 'Flip Side', Rudi Coetzee, commercial director, CBI explained that it was a play on the phrase to 'flip a switch' with content highlighting the technologies involved downstream once an electrical circuit is switched on. Subjects covered included circuit breakers, protection, HV and LV electrical cable as well as instrument, data and optical cabling, metering, industrial automation, motor control, switchgear and surge protection. Various speakers used the opportunity to share their in-depth knowledge of available technologies, with information applicable to light and heavy industry, mining, metals, distribution and reticulation, residential and commercial utilisation.
Viv Cohen, author of the book 'Application Guide for the Protection of LV Distribution Systems', was the keynote speaker. His experience was brought to the fore in his presentations on circuit breakers, surge protection, energy efficiency and related case studies. A range of other subjects was presented including electric and optical fibre cables, automation, motor control and pre-paid and check metering.
Coetzee said that the excellent turnout exceeded all expectations and boded well for future conferences to be held in the future. The 'Flip Side' will be held in various cities during the upcoming months.
