Square D, a subsidiary of Telemecanique, has designed a compact master switch for use with all types of magnetic controllers used on mill auxiliaries and on crane and hoist applications.
Known as the Type VM master switch, it may be used as a desk-type master in control consoles or it may be floor mounted as an independent master switch. In either case, the slender design provides a compact arrangement with liberal space for wiring and maintenance.
The operating mechanism of the Type VM Master Switch is housed in an aluminium gearbox. Machined steel bevel gears and sealed ball bearings are used to provide a smooth and efficient transmission of motion from the operating lever to the contact mechanism below. The VM Master has the firm feel and excellent inching ability required for accurate mill and crane operations. The steel notching cam and moulded operating cams are mounted on an hexagonal steel shaft. The operating cams are designed for smooth operation and rapid opening and closing.
Master switches are normally assembled for right hand operation, but the VM can be assembled left hand if specified.
