With its series of Addicom APCI-7XXX boards, Addi-data was one of the first companies to put interference-proof isolated serial communication PCI or CompactPCI boards for industrial applications on the market.
Addi-data's serial interface range comprises basic boards, which cater for one, two, four or eight serial ports. Serial interface (SI) modules can be plugged onto the basic board to provide the required type of interface.
Individual interfaces can be configured to be RS232, RS422, RS485 or TTY standards, with or without electrical isolation. In this way the hardware can be optimally adapted to requirements, even after installation. The serial input and output channels are protected against short circuits, fast transients, electrostatic discharge and EMI, and are suited for rough industrial environments. Data rates of up to 115 kilo baud are standard, optionally up to 1 Mega baud. The flexible baud rate generator can generate non-standard transfer rates. 64-byte or 128-byte FIFO buffers for each channel guarantee that even at high transfer rates, no data is lost.
Due to the common interrupt function there is never a lack of interrupt channels, even with many interfaces installed. The boards are delivered with the ADDIREG software, a program that enables the user to put the board into operation and parameterise it quickly and easily. With the included standard drivers (Win XP/2000/NT/98/95, with examples in Visual C ++, Visual Basic and Delphi), the interfaces can be accessed as usual COM ports by any kind of software.
The serial input and output channels are protected against short circuits, fast transients, electrostatic discharge and EMI. In order to meet high safety requirements, all types of interfaces are available with electrical isolation. On the basic boards and the SI modules, creep paths of a minimum of 3,2 mm are maintained. Critical tracks are isolated from each other on the component and solder sides of the board and surrounded by ground areas. The interfaces are protected against voltages of up to 1 kV to avoid flashovers.
